Creating a Practice Area

For more information on the EZBowler, please read our introduction.

To use your EZBowler™, you need a little space in your home or office, preferably a hardwood or linoleum floor with a good 10 feet of room.  You can still perfect your arm swing and delivery by making your deliveries from an imaginary foul line if you do not have this type of space.  You may throw your EZBowler into a wall or a chair or a couch, but watch out for breakables in case you throw a gutter ball.  For the sake of this lesson, we are going to assume that you can create a foul line and an approach (the area where you walk to the foul line) for practicing good technique.

To create an ideal approach, find a hallway or similar area - preferably something with hardwood floors or linoleum.  Having a mirror at the end of your practice area is a great tool.  If you do use a mirror, make sure it is firmly secured in place and flat against the door or wall and do not throw your ball at the mirror.  If you don't use a mirror, a wall or a door will work as well.

Place a piece of masking tape 18 inches off the floor in the middle of your target area.  If there is a chair already there, you can use this as your target.  Be creative! Take another piece of masking tape and mark a foul line four to ten feet in front of your target.  Now turn and stand at the foul line with your back to your target and make your delivery (everybody has different footwork) going away from the target.  A ball is not necessary here. Where you are standing at the end of your delivery will be your starting point.  For a four-step delivery, this should be about four and a half steps.  Place another piece of masking tape here to mark it.

Now it is important to talk about your body and your natural rhythm.  If you are a short bowler with short arms, you can generate a lot of power and be a great bowler, but your rhythm will be different than a tall bowler with long arms.  At this point, take a moment to think about your body’s natural rhythm and keep it in mind as you practice. You can learn four different physical games if you choose.   After analyzing your body’s natural rhythm and learning the four different game skills, you will have an idea of which game is ideally suited to your body and natural abilities.  This will later be known as your "A" game.  This is the game that will probably take the least amount of work to master.  It’s your "B", "C", and "D" games that will be the most challenging and give you the greatest rewards.

You may wear a slide shoe on your left foot if you are right-handed, and on your right foot if you are left-handed.  If you do not have a bowling shoe available, you can cut the heel out of a sock and pull the toe end over a comfortable shoe.  Be careful not to overslide or stick while you are practicing.  You don't want to build up too much momentum and fall.  The EZBowler is designed to improve technique while training in slow motion.  After committing new technique to muscle memory, you can speed your game up to your natural rhythm.

You may get as elaborate as you want in creating your practice area.  Use markers to simulate the marking systems that are used in bowling alleys today.  You can place dots and arrows beyond the foul line to help you focus on your shot-making.  You can also receive great benefit by practicing with a partner.  Play catch and have your partner critique each shot.  Use the lines on your EZBowler to keep your technique perfect and consistent.

Now you are ready to start practicing.  For more advanced learning, choose a link on the left and take it to the next level!  We recommend starting with the medium hook.  For information on holding the EZBowler correctly, click on  finger grips.
