Tip of the Month Adjusting your shot for different oil patterns To achieve good shot-making in different oil patterns, ball speed can be critical. In oily conditions, slower speeds are optimum and in drier patterns, higher ball speeds obtain better results. When adjusting your ball speed, always start your change right from the beginning with your push-away.
For oily conditions, hold your ball lower in your starting stance. This will create a lower push-away and less of a backswing. Therefore, you will need to move toward the foul line slightly in your starting position and slow your steps and timing. For drier conditions, hold the ball higher in your starting stance. A higher push-away creates a higher backswing and greater speed. Your starting position will be further away from the foul line, allowing for faster and longer steps. Previous Tips Patent Pending |
